Tuulikki Bartosik will perform at the largest World Music Showcase Festival WOMEX
The WOMEX world music fair and showcase festival, taking place in Manchester, England from October 23–27, has announced its lineup of 61 performers from 44 different countries, including Estonian talent Tuulikki Bartosik. The festival features both local and international talent, bringing together delegates from various countries and regions.
This year, Tuulikki Bartosik from Estonia has been selected to perform in the offWOMEX program on the night of October 24 at Aviva Studio, The Hall. Tuulikki Bartosik is a versatile musician and composer known for her innovative approach to the accordion. Hailing from Sweden and Estonia, she is an accordionist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who has been compared to neoclassical greats like Philip Glass and minimalist icons like Ólafur Arnalds. Bartosik’s latest album, PLAYSCAPES, created in collaboration with Sander Mölder, has been praised by critics and audiences alike for its groundbreaking compositions, soundscapes, and instrumentation.Playscapes was shortlisted by Bandcamp and in Songlines Music Awards. Recognized by Swedish music magazine Lira as the folktronica album of the year and Beehype Magazine as one of the best albums in 2023, it also earned a nomination in Swedens Manifestgalan’s experimental music category.
Every year, WOMEX attracts over 2,600 visitors from more than 90 countries, making it one of the most important meeting points for folk and world music professionals. In addition to the offWOMEX Estonian stage, Music Estonia, in collaboration with the Estonian Traditional Music Center, coordinates the Estonian delegation, the Baltic States’ joint exhibition area, networking events with professionals from the host country, and receptions in cooperation with the Estonian Embassy in London. The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the musical city of Tallinn.
